Progressing through Sons of the Forest will by no means be an easy feat. You'll come up against some powerful and terrifying enemies as you attempt to survive on this harsh isolated island, and the only way you'll make it out is with the right weapon for the job.

Luckily, the game sports quite an extensive list of weapons that you can utilize to put your enemies down, permanently. So in this guide, we're going to take a look at the full list of all the weapons you can find in Sons of the Forest.

Sons of the Forest Complete Weapons List

Players will have access to a selection of guns (such as the newly added Shotgun), bows, swords, melee weapons for when you run out of ammo, and much more than what we did in the predecessor, The Forest. Thanks to recent trailers for the sequel, we also know that some new tech will be introduced, such as a 3D printer to create unique methods of dismembering and bludgeoning your enemies.

Below is a full list of all the weapons we expect to see in Sons of the Forest based on the previous game, as well as what we've seen in the trailers.

We will update this listing as more weapons are added in the future. For instance, if the game receives an added DLC or updates, a new gun or melee weapon will likely be added to the game.

  • Bone
  • Cattle prod
  • Chainsaw
  • Climbing Axe
  • Crafted axe (from The Forest)
  • Crafted bomb
  • Crafted club
  • Crossbow
  • Fireman’s axe
  • Flare
  • Guitar
  • Katana
  • Knife
  • Machete
  • Molotov
  • Pistol
  • Revolver
  • Rock
  • Severed arm
  • Severed leg
  • Shotgun
  • Shovel
  • Stick
  • Spear
  • Taser

The Best Weapons To Use In Sons of the Forest

Among these weapons, there are a few that draw our attention specifically. These weapons are most likely going to carry you through the early stages of the game and allow you to survive until you can get some better ones or upgrades later on, so below we've outlined our picks for the best weapons to focus on when playing Sons of the Forest.

  • Axe - As we all expected, the iconic Axe will be a staple in Sons of the Forest as it was with its predecessor. This weapon is ideal for not only collecting resources but the heads or limbs of any mutants in your way.
  • Cattle Prod - One of the new weapons introduced in the game. It stuns enemies and gives you time to either deal a finishing blow or run away and regroup, or reload.
  • Pistol - An upgrade to the Flintlock pistol in the original game, the newly added pistol will likely be a more resource-friendly option for putting enemies down quickly. While we don't know how acquiring the pistol will work just yet, it's likely the starting point for all guns we'll get in the game.
  • Shotgun - Also a newly added gun, but one that packs more of a punch than the pistol. The Shotgun will likely be limited on ammunition, but it will be critical to surviving ambushes and tense moments against the mutants that hunt you.
  • Crossbow - A returning weapon from the original game, the Crossbow will likely be a weapon that players can get earlier, possibly in caves. But the resources to create bolts will be limited, so use this one wisely and when you don't want to attract attention.
  • Melee Weapons - Last but not least, melee weapons such as the new Guitar and severed limbs can be used to smash your enemies to death or scare them off. A last resort perhaps, but something you might want to keep on hand when you want to conserve ammunition.

Of course, if weapons are added to the game or the meta surrounding the new weapons in the game changes, we'll add them to our recommended list of weapons to start with in Sons of the Forest. And of course, good luck out there.
