Bejeweled game info
Game modes
Bejeweled has two game modes: classic and timed.
Classic
In the Classic game mode you advance to the next level by collecting points. There is no time limit or other requirement to advance a level, so you can take all the time you need to study the board before making a move.
Complete the progress bar below the game board (called Level Bar) to progress to the next level. Every time you progress a level, the Level Bar will require more points to be filled.
The game ends when there are no moves available anymore.
Speed
In the Speed game mode (also known as Lightning) you only have a limited amount of time to score points. The Timer bar at the top of the game board shows how much time you have left.
If you make multiple matches in a row fast enough, you will get a speed bonus.
In the beginning of the game, the timer is set to 60 seconds. In each round, the collected Time Gems (+5, +10 or +15) add seconds to the Time Extension tank. When time is up, the next round starts with the time that is in the Time Extension tank.
Time Gems are added randomly after creating matches. They become increasingly scarce when progressing rounds, making it more difficult to fill the Time Extension tank.
At the end of a round, the Time Gems that are not matched are changed into Flame Gems (+5) and Star Gems (+10 or +15).
When time is up, there are some additional points awarded during the Last Hurrah phase. Special gems will also be detonated.
Special gems
- Flame Gem: Created by matching a set of 4 gems. When matched, it causes a fiery blast (removes a group of 3x3 gems around it, also triggering any special gems in that area)
- Star Gem: Created by matching gems in an L, T or + shape. When matched, it removes all gems in its row and column.
- Hypercube: Created by matching a set of 5 gems. Swap it with a gem to remove all gems of that color.
- Supernova Gem: Created by matching a set of 6 gems. When matched, it removes all gems in a 3x3 radius and all gems in its row and column. This effectively combines the effect of the Flame Gem and Star Gem.
Strategy tips
- Start matching gems at the top of the game board. Matching gems at the bottom of the board will destroy potential matches, while making matches at the top of the board doesn’t impact potential matches at the bottom.
- Make matches of 4 or more when possible. This will result in Special Gems which will later result in more points.
- Keep Hypercubes and Special gems on the board as long as possible. In the Classic mode, the game ends when there are no moves available anymore. If you have a Hypercube, you can always make a move even if regular matches are not possible anymore.
