COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho public defender's office is seeking emails between prosecutors and public officials involving murder cases.
The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Kootenai County Deputy Public Defender Jay Logsdon filed the request late last month.
Kootenai County Chief Public Defender John Adams says he won't comment on the matter until he's reviewed the emails.
The request also contains email addresses for the Idaho Capital Crimes Defense Fund, created under Idaho statute to reduce the trial costs of death penalty cases on counties.
Kootenai County administrative supervisor Nancy Jones says about 5,000 emails are being requested dating back to 2014.
A murder case that falls within that timeframe involves Jonathan Renfro. He's facing the death penalty following the 2015 shooting death of a Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore.
