FIRST PHOTO: A large wave breaks over a sea wall lining Honoapiilani Highway in Ukumehame Thursday afternoon. A combination of a large south swell and high tides placed stress on numerous locations along the shoreline road, as well as South and North Kihei roads Wednesday and Thursday.

SECOND PHOTO: A wave laps the side of Honoapiilani Highway in Olowalu during Thursday afternoon’s high tide. South-facing shores across the state were under a high surf advisory through Thursday afternoon, with the National Weather Service warning that extreme high tides in the coming days could lead to saltwater flooding of beaches and low-lying shoreline areas.
